Bravo! It’s very rare to come across a half way intelligent tourist assessment of this place (with very nice photographs), and yes, Pena is “ghastly”

Ah, thank you! I had a look at your well-documented post on Sintra http://stephenbrody.blogspot.pt/2010/03/ix-hollywood-lusitania.html which readers may enjoy if they would like to know more about the historical aspects of Sintra. We could see Casa dos Penedos from our lunch spot but didn’t have any information on what it was.
What a great tour of Sintra! I felt like I was there, visiting the beautiful sites and enjoying the beautiful cooler weather (it’s hot and dry now in California!). Your beautiful pictures are very enticing and convinced me that I should visit Portugal very soon.

Thank you Anda. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. We were bothered by the delapidated state of many of the buildings though (but not Sintra).
What a beautiful city. And that Heraldry Room is stunning!
Thank you William – I agree with you!

Glad to hear you liked Sintra. I was disappointed I didn’t get to go to Pena Castle. It looks fantastic in your photos.
The exterior of Pena Castle is ghastly, as I said, but the views and some parts of the interior make it worth it.
