What a fabulous photo of Ettal Monastery, Rosemary. The day we visited the rain was torrential (in Summer!) and we could barely see it for fog. We did enjoy a lovely lunch at the Gasthof/pub directly across the road, though and if I remember correctly, the beer my husband drank was brewed at the monastery by the monks!
I love that part of Bavaria. Did you visit Linderhof Palace or any of Ludwig’s other castles?

What a pity it was raining when you went there! We hesitated to have lunch in the area because we thought it was too touristy. The shop in the monastery sells their beer as well.
We didn’t visit Linderhof Palance or any of the other castle’s I’m afraid. After cycling through the countryside, we find the crowds difficult to deal with.

It seems you had difficulties to find a place to stay in Germany… Personally, I am using a lot Airbnb to find nice flats. In 30% of the cases, you can have a flat for yourself there and they have the calendar of availibility online as well, which as you mention is the most important when looking for a room and not to waste time. Only my advice though.
I wish you a good trip on this wonderful part of Europe!

Thank you. We haven’t used airbnb yet, although my children do. One of the problems is timing. You usually need to be able to pick up the key at a specific time, we have been told. However, we may try it in the future.

Have you tried HomeAway? I’ve had great success with HomeAway but I do usually book far ahead.

Yes, our problem is having to book at the last moment. I list our house in Blois with HomeAway (which is also VRBO) and am very happy with it.
