  1. I’ve done a traditional lime plaster workshop, so I know how much hard work it is holding your taloche of plaster and getting the wrist action right with the trowel. I’ve watched our friend Stéphane do it on several walls in our house and his, using different layers of slightly different consistency or ingredients. He always likes to explain the technicalities and give hints and tips, so I learned a lot from him. You are right though — even when the professionals do it they make a big mess on the floor that has to be cleaned up.

I imagine the plaster is going to be even harder! I’ll leave that to Relationnel as only one of us can be on the ladder at once which is a good excuse. My next job is to put the crépi on the walls. Apparently it’s relatively simple. The previous owners had a bookcase built on the right of the fireplace and had another bookcase on the left that pretty well filled the space so didn’t bother putting any crépi behind! I might add that they had a huge cupboard IN FRONT OF the fireplace, covering it up totally!
