I don’t “only drink bordeaux” as there are plenty of other wines I enjoy, but I do not like beaujolais nouveau very much. I find that it is too fruity/acidic and also I dislike chilled red wine. It just doesn’t work for me. When I was first introduced to beaujolais nouveau, I was still relatively new to drinking wine. It was new to me that red wine could even taste remotely nice as I’d been used to horrible tasting Canadian reds (they have improved immensely in the past 10 years). Some friends at the beaujolais nouveau party had brought some nice bordeaux wines. I quickly gave up on the beaujolais nouveau and drank that instead.

Oh, I agree perfectly! The only time I drink “beaujolais nouveau” is on the day, but we do drink other beaujolais as well, that aren’t “nouveau”. The “nouveau” has probably come a long way since the first time you tasted it (like the Canadian reds). Some of them are still pretty horrible. And I’d frankly choose a bordeaux over a beaujolais nouveau any time!

I do remember one year the beaujolais nouveau was not bad. I think it was after a particularly warm summer. Maybe it was 2003? It at least tasted like something that year. And yes, I do like other beaujolais wines.

Yes, 2003 was a particularly good year for beaujolais nouveau. I’ll see what we find tonight!

What’s your verdict on this year’s beaujolais nouveau? Which did you try? I was wondering which ones are considered “good” this year. I bought one randomly at my local Shopi. Piat, I think. It wasn’t great but tasted better the more I drank đ My local bakery had little “beaujolais breads” which were wonderful.

Oh neat, what’s in the “beaujolais breads”? Last night we tried two. The first was a Château de Corcelles, no nose, typical banana flavour, light but pleasant that we had with saucisson and chestnuts at “La Bourse” and the second was Miss Vicki, whom I follow on Twitter and that we had at the Zinc des Cavistes with an excellent cold meat and platter. It had a lot more body and a fruity nose and was very enjoyable. They, too, were offering Château de Corcelles but we preferred to stick with the Miss Vicky http://blogs.lexpress.fr/miss-vicky-wine.

The breads were this lovely redish colour and had saucisson and bits of walnuts in them. Pretty too look at and very tasty. Where can you buy Miss Vicky Wine?

Bananas? I’m going to pay close attention to my Beaujolais Nouveau tonight to see if I taste bananas. I’ve never noticed it before.
I didn’t know that there’s an iphone app. Was it helpful?
