It was such a pity not being able to get over and check this out! Do you know of any particularly good wine stores in Paris? I’ve been given a list of “must-haves” and so far haven’t had much luck in finding them!

There’ll be other wine fairs. The one at Espace Champerret from 23rd to 26th March is pretty big (we always have free entries to that too). Otherwise, you’d be surprised what wines you can find in some of the big supermarkets. Hachette has a special section just on supermarkets in its wine guide. There’s also the Mailly en Champagne Wine & Gastronomy Fair which is our favourite. This year it’ll be held on 11, 12 et 13 juin 2011. The village is closed off for three days and all the local wine growers open their garages, which give onto the street, to wine growers and producers from throughout France. It’s a wonderful relaxed atmosphere with more time to talk to the growers. We happened upon it by accident many years ago and one of our best wines, a gaillac made from old vines, comes from there. The other guide we use is the Gilbert & Gaillard for independent wine growers. That’s what we use when we go on our wine-tasting holidays.
And, of course, you have Legrand in Passage Vivienne, probably one of Paris’ most famous wine stores. They have tastings as well. There are also the Nicolas stores, which have a reasonable range and, in particular, their own selection of often surprisingly good wines at very reasonable prices. Another very big wine store is Lavinia, 3 boulevard de la Madeleine.
