Next time you’re visiting Milan, check out the Hotel Berna, which has a fabulous buffet breakfast and comforable rooms. It’s located in a pleasant reasidential street which leads off from Milano Centrale railway station, so not right in the centre but not far either. We usually just took a taxi, maybe ten or twelve euros. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We liked it so much, we’ve booked again for our next trip this year.
If you go up to the roof top floor of La Rinascente department store, located right next to the Duomo, there are a few lovely outdoor cafes/trattorias (with umbrellas or awnings) which look straight into the pinnacles of the Duomo, a lovely spot in good weather. Food also good and great ambience. Most people who dined there during our frequent lunches seemd to be Milanese.

Hi Pamela, I’ll definitely check out Hotel Berna next time! And also go to the roof top floor of La Rinascente. Sounds like a wonderful way to see the top of the Duomo.
I love your photos of the sun setting over the Duomo and the façade shiny from so many people touching it. I have yet to go to Milan so great to have some bonnes adresses.

Looks like Milan is going to have to be added to the list of places to visit as well!

Yes, you can get very cheap flights with Ryan Air via Bergamo which is definitely worth a visit as well. Black Cat knows a good hostel in Milan.
